Don’t Start With What’s Possible…

I want you to Write music that you can’t play. Or in non-musical terms, set goals that don’t exist. Most of us, from individuals to multinational corporations, set goals that exist, the next step, small increases. Did you know that’s arbitrary? It doesn’t have to be that way. Exponential change is possible.

Try this: Set one goal where, to come up with the goal, don’t start with what’s possible; start with what’s COOL. What would you do in a perfect world? What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

Here’s the test to know you have the kind of goal I’m talking about: It takes courage to think it. The kind of goal that completes this phrase: “Ok, this is nuts, but I’m going to _______________!” What is it that’s crazy, but you’re going to do it anyway?

Three things you must do with this goal:

1. Write it down.

2. Commit to it.

3. Take action on it immediately.

If you do this, the coolest thing will happen… The universe will come to your aid. You’ll have help! I call it God, but you can call it whatever you want. Coincidences will start to bring you to your goal. Not that you won’t have to work hard. But you will have help.

One very public example of this was John F. Kennedy said, “We’re going to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade.” When he said  that the technology did not exist. It exists and we did it because he said we’re going to do it.

Guess what? That phenomenon doesn’t just work for Kennedy. It works for anyone!

Playing and headlining Carnegie Hall, having my own show in Las Vegas, being in the Speaker Hall of Fame, financial independence, doing the first-ever cross-country concert tour on bicycle, these are all goals I had which I had little idea of how to achieve, I just knew I wanted them.

Here’s my personal opinion: Goals like this give God a chance to be God, to come through. When you’re clear about what, but you don’t know how, and then you step out toward the goal in faith, amazing things happen.

So have fun, get crazy, forget what’s possible, envision what you most want and make that your goal! You’ll be surprised at the success you’ll have!
