Fail Faster, Fail Often

Do you want to succeed faster?

Then you need to fail faster.

By now you certainly know that failure is an integral part of success. You also know that if it’s a great goal, keep on failing until you succeed.

But don’t you still hate failure? Avoid it? Sometimes fear it? That negative attachment causes us to spend lots of time, predicting, preparing, getting ready, fussing over details…. and wasting time. Admit it, sometimes incessant preparation is an avoidance of trying, in order to avoid failing.

That has to stop. You need to fail faster.

When you fail – and you will fail – drop the worry, blame, and complaints. Adjust your approach, fix what needs to be fixed and launch again. Quickly.

Here’s the simple formula:

Launch, fail, adjust, launch again.

This idea of failing faster isn’t just about your career… it works for relationships, finances, habit change, even your health.

Elon Musk, the engineer entrepreneur who started PayPal, Zip2, Tesla, SpaceX, and Solar City says his goal is always to fail fast. The faster they fail, the faster they’re successful. Let me say that again…

The faster you fail, the faster you will be successful.

Thomas Watson, CEO of IBM from 1914 to 1956 said, “If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate.”

So, how will you apply this? What is it you’ve been planning (and planning, and planning) but haven’t done? Do it today.

Launch, fail, change your process and keep failing fast. You’ll be amazed at how fast you succeed.
